“Beep! Beep! BEEP!”
Alarm goes off and you snap into “reactive mode”?
Is that the way your day begins?
First thing of the day: You plow through a legion of emails, sms, and Skype pop-ups.
You start reacting to external alerts that cry for your attention. Instead of seizing a day of your design, you slide into a day full of accidents.
Here’s a simple way to kick-start your day
Dedicate the 1st-hour of your day to your private matters… before doing anything else.
Before waking up your kids.
Before checking your phone.
Before checking your email-inbox, etc.
Then, follow these steps:
#1: Wake up 1 hour earlier than you usually do. If that’s too hard for you right now, just get up 10 minutes earlier for the first seven days. Then you incrementally wake up, each week, 10 minutes earlier… until you’ve finally arrived at rising one hour earlier.
#2: Don’t open Pandora’s box — No emails, no SMS, no Facebook (or whatever your have). Stay out of reactive mode for your 1st hour of the day.
#3: Take goal-progress actions. Supercharge your day with actions that, if done perpetually, bring you closer to your goals. If you don’t clearly know what your goals are, then this is the perfect time for setting goals.
#4: Invest in yourself and keep yourself ahead of the game
- Work on your spiritual growth by reading enlightening books like The Power Of Now – by Eckhart Tolle [Amazon link].
- Keep your personal journal. Reflect on your goals and your purpose. Plan your day ahead in writing.
- Visualize your goals and rehearse your ideal day.
- Learn about marketing or copywriting — Skills your can employ in almost any working environment.
- Exercise and get into shape. No need to do a crazy workout. 15 minutes of easy yoga are a great start to bolster your health and happiness.
After your first zen-like hour, you’re mentally charged and ready to open up the “floodgates” of life.
I know, from personal experience, it’s hard to get started. But, you can use an incremental approach. Do 5 pushups. Read 1 page. Write one sentence.
After 2 months you’ll wonder how you’ve ever managed without this morning routine.
As always, I’d be delighted if you leave me a comment below! What’s your personal morning routine? What actions help you most? What are your challenges and difficulties? I want to know.
P.S. You really, really, really can’t wake up early?
